This is an excellent opportunity to join our Finance Team at Pembrokeshire County Council. We are a busy team, working with all areas of the authority and with a net revenue budget of £266.1m (2023-23). As the Principal Accountant you would bring your experience, skills and innovation to not only help meet our current demand but assist in transforming our services so we are ready for any future challenges that await.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Incorporating Council decisions affecting estimates into the management budget
  • Ensuring the approved management budget is accurately input onto the corporate financial information system and is amended for any subsequent virement decisions or additional resource allocations
  • Undertaking regular budget monitoring review and preparing an executive brief for the Budget Panel, identifying high risk areas, working with budget managers to investigate issues, identifying budget pressures and savings and informing the Finance Manager of any areas of concern and proposed remedial actions.
  • Ensuring the accounts are closed and relevant parts of the associated statements are completed within the set deadlines
  • Having responsibility for accounting, financial governance, budgeting and accounts closure within your allocated service areas.
  • Briefing and/or preparation of reports for Directors, Heads of Service and budget managers on financial matters providing a clear analytical picture and ensuring they understand all the underlying issues and consequences
  • Management on a day to day basis of staff assigned by the Finance Manager.

Qualification & Experience:
