What’s the role about

In the role of Systems Development Manager you will be responsible for developing the optimal operational performance of the WMS which includes configuration of the system, the writing and testing of new computer code and operational reports.

You will understand and recommend operational processes that standardise and improve their effectiveness across all the different sites, by having an excellent operational knowledge of the WMS and its development / enhancement

You will also develop effective relationships with direct and indirect line reports and empower them to take ownership for their operational success and personal development.

  • You will plan resource to ensure adequate cover in all areas to support projects

  • Actively engage departments to define system enhancements

  • Manage the technical configuration of the sites Warehouse Management Systems to maximise productivity and service levels

  • Ensure all IT systems within the NDCS are contributing to improving the sites KPIs in Cost, Productivity and Accuracy

  • Guide and support the team to carry out analysis and investigation to find possible cause to incidents and escalate as required

  • Act as escalation process for issues which cannot be resolved by the local teams

  • Provide a regular reporting pack to senior management detailing the progress of systems project and a review if any Major IT incidents

  • Champion Information Security Instructions (ISI) and Payment Card Industry (PCI) regulations across the site

  • Ensure spending against capital projects and site Profit & Loss accounts are appropriate and to budget

  • Develop close working relationships with Central IT functions to raise awareness of the NDC business plan and create opportunities to help its delivery

  • Liaise with the Operations teams, Central IT and 3rd Parties to ensure support issues are resolved within Service Level Agreements

  • Maintain a relationship with other Systems Support functions within the National Distribution Centers, Customer Delivery Hubs and Retail

  • Communicate and share all relevant information in a timely manner, respecting that your team are co-owners

  • Apply a Continuous Improvement Method to the work of the team and contribute to any site lead Continuous Improvement events


This role would suit someone who:-

  • Who can Support the delivery of both the balanced scorecard and SLA for sites.

  • Is comfortable with challenging existing processes and practices and is proactive in implementing initiatives to drive continuous improvement.

  • Is a confident communicator ensuring all stakeholders are fully consulted in any process changes.

  • Can deliver positive and constructive customer relationships at all levels within operations.

  • Take’s ownership for own department and participate in a coaching and feedback culture to achieve agreed targets/objectives

  • Can engage Partners in the Partner Survey and own the department action plan

What else you should know:

Location: This role is currently based in our Magna Park 3 Distribution Centre and covers a number of sites in and around the Midlands area. Some travel is expected to various Partnership and Third party sites. This role will need to ensure that each site’s system requirements are met and the local support teams are set to provide excellent service.
