The Corporate Responsibility (CR) department oversees the development and implementation of the firm’s CR agenda and initiatives by crafting goals, policies, and initiatives that align with the firm’s business strategies and operational objectives and support communities where we do business. CR includes Global Government Relations, Global Philanthropy, Sustainability, and the JPMorgan Chase Institute and PolicyCenter .

Global Government Relations (GGR) is housed within Corporate Responsibility and is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive policy, regulatory and advocacy strategy on behalf of JPMorgan Chase. This includes engaging in balanced advocacy with regulators and policymakers, understanding and providing thought leadership on how policies affect the firm’s clients and economic growth overall, and governing internal coordination among regions and lines of business on global regulatory reform issues. GGR includes Federal, State & Local, and International Government Relations, and Regulatory Affairs. The International Government Relations team is global, with staff based in Washington, DC, London, Brussels, Hong Kong, and Beijing.

The Role

Global Government Relations is seeking a Managing Director to lead its regional government affairs in Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), based out of J.P. Morgan’s regional headquarters in London. The position is on the International Government Relations team and reports to the firm’s Head of Global Engagement, who sits in Washington, DC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify emerging policy issues in the EU and UK, create strategies to influence policy development, and advise internal partners on impacts of policy changes;
  • Coordinate development of policy positions across lines of business and in coordination with other corporate partners;
  • Manage and build relationships with relevant EU and UK policymakers, regulators, and official sector institutions, and build advocacy and engagement strategies;
  • Coordinate closely with other Global Government Relations and Corporate Responsibility functions and lines of business to ensure issues, messaging, and outreach align with the firm’s business goals globally.
  • In particular, partner with Sustainability and Regulatory Affairs on ESG policy and regulatory developments, including engagement with external stakeholders; with Global Philanthropy on relevant issues/policy areas; with Regulatory Affairs on a broad range of relevant EU and UK financial services policies, regulation and legislation; and with internal corporate functions and lines of business on global issues including sustainable finance and climate and digital transformation.

Leadership and Management

  • Partner with senior management in Global Government Relations and other corporate and business partners to develop and implement firm-wide strategies regarding policy, regulation and political risk;
  • Provide senior management with advice and guidance on policy and political issues in strategic decision making and help provide a holistic view of the legislative and regulatory landscape in the UK and EU;
  • Partner with executive management across the firm to drive, influence, and collaborate on the accomplishment of business objectives and overall company goals;
  • Lead the EMEA Government Relations team, provide constructive and positive leadership, promote a cooperative and collaborative team environment.

Candidate Profile

  • Significant relevant work experience in government, public policy, and/or a multinational or financial services firm;
  • Substantive EU and UK regional market experience, in-depth understanding of policy-making processes, and a clinical lens for the impacts of global political and economic developments on the financial services industry across EMEA;
  • Substantial knowledge and understanding of financial services policy in the UK and EU;
  • Deep base of contacts within the UK and EU official sector and senior level experience working with policymakers;
  • Strong leadership and management experience, demonstrated ability to lead a diverse team of professionals and create an environment for growth and collaboration;
  • Demonstrated strategic planning and execution, the ability to define broader team and functional priorities;
  • Demonstrated analytical and independent problem-solving skills; sound judgment and strong collaborative decision-making skills;
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, strong ability to articulate concepts and strategies effectively to senior management in Europe, Washington, DC, and New York.
