Within our Platform Services Software Engineering group a rare opportunity has been made available for a senior, experienced and principled engineering lead & architect, we are looking for a MongoDB Atlas Global Engineering Lead heading up a global team across three regions. You will design, architect, build and grow the firm-wide strategic public cloud MongoDB Atlas Service (MAS), a huge growth area for a firm as we move forward with our modernization strategy. We have significant demand from all of our key lines of business to build out new business requirements as well as migrate existing applications onto this service. We are willing to be flexible on location and will consider applications in Bournemouth, Jersey City, London or Bengaluru for the right candidate. Remote and flexible working will of course be offered but there will be an expectation of office presence for 20% of working week (minimally). The role will also involve occasional travel as required to any of our strategic locations.

Our wider group – a team of dedicated, enthusiastic and highly-skilled technologists with richly diverse thought and approach is responsible for building centralized, streamlined & secure database services across internal and public cloud. These services are leveraged by all of our lines of business across the globe. We have a vision of a versatile & rich array of highly consumable products which will meet the needs of our thousands of business technologists. MongoDB Atlas is the market-leading, feature rich, highly available managed NoSQL document database available across AWS, GCP and Azure. MongoDB has built a solid reputation for being the developer’s database of choice and you will be leading the architecture, engineering, provisioning & automation of the offering to make it available for consumption by any of our tens of thousands of technologists. You will be the end to end Engineering Lead of the platform from design, compliance and security through to delivery and iterative releases. You will work very closely with the Product Manager, Area Product Owner, Product Line General Manager as well as your architectural and engineering counterparts across the database product line. Close collaboration with vendors, key stakeholders and line of business leads will be integral to this hands-on role.

The right candidate will be skilled in building and managing effective global engineering teams from the ground up as well as having deep expertise in building out cloud-native platforms in complex, multi-stakeholder enterprise environments. You will need to have a track record in both of these fundamental areas.

Required Skills

  • BS/BA degree or equivalent experience
  • AWS certified (Cloud Practitioner or equivalent)
  • Engineering management, recruitment and leadership
  • Building effective and principled global engineering functions.
  • Executive level communications/presentations & negotiation skills
  • Defining and delivering roadmaps & working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Budgets and financial forecasting
  • Vendor relationships
  • Experience with at least two of the following languages: Python, Java, C, C++, C#, Go
  • Experience with document-oriented database products: MongoDB, MarkLogic, DocumentDB etc
  • Practical experience of architecting & developing applications or platforms on any one of the major public cloud providers (AWS, Google, Azure). Industry cloud certifications are a bonus
  • Knowledge and experience of industry wide technology strategies and best practices
  • Unit-testing framework(s) & BDD/TDD
  • Infrastructure-as-code experience – Terraform, Ansible, Puppet and/or Salt
  • Understanding and experience of Agile and Lean philosophies including experience with JIRA, YouTrack and/or similar
  • Experience of Python frameworks – Django/Flask etc.

Skills

Additional skills that would be advantageous (please note that if you have few/none of these we will help put together a personal development plan to attain these)

  • Experience with relational databases
  • CI/CD pipelines preferably including Jenkins, Bamboo and/or Spinnaker
  • Experience with Pivotal Cloud Foundry (including IBM WebSphere) and/or Heroku
  • Experience with core services including Active Directory, Kerberos and DNS
