Technology Manager / Software Engineering Manager

Location: Bristol or London

The Opportunity

Just Eat is looking for a Technology Manager to lead an engineering team developing and evolving the services, events and flows to power our Restaurant partner self-service capabilities.

We provide restaurant partners with an accessible and flexible toolset to best support their requirements. This is a high profile role within a highly visible team that makes considerable contributions to both our bottom and top line growth. You will have the opportunity to make a significant impact across the business within this role. The ideal candidate will have commercial awareness and be able to balance technical vs business decisions effectively to satisfy our stakeholders, partners and the engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Technology Manager provides leadership, guidance and career development for teams made typically of between 5-10 software/ quality engineers.
  • Collaborating closely with the Product Manager and Delivery Manager, the Technology Manager shares ownership of the team’s roadmap and deliverables, and ensures that the team remains focussed in the right areas, and in accordance with wider architectural principles and patterns.
  • The Technology Manager will be responsible for working with their team to maintain appropriate standards of quality, and operational excellence, and embedding these principles within the engineers.
  • The Technology Manager is expected to check in with the members of their team regularly and frequently to provide effective career development and guidance, in accordance with the frameworks provided by People teams. The Technology Manager should work with their reports to set objectives and celebrate progress and success.
  • The Technology Manager is not expected to make all decisions within the team, and should strive to provide an open and non-hierarchical platform for all the engineers to contribute and have a voice in discussions, as part of a culture of inclusiveness.
  • The Technology Manager is expected to be active in the wider JET engineering community and to encourage participation across the team.
  • The Technology Manager may also be hands-on and contribute directly to solutions where appropriate, however this is not necessarily expected in all contexts.
