This role is for a 12 Month Fixed Term Contract.

As a Senior Product Designer you’ll encompass both strategic and hands-on working. From the problem definition stage, using research and discovery methods, through to the final UI design, on digital products and services at a global scale.

You’ll drive future vision through facilitation and strong communication as part of a multi-discipline team, ensuring a human-centric approach to guide the creation of a viable, feasible, accessible, and usable experience across web and mobile, building the required links between out of store and in-store experiences. Working collaboratively, and delivering the best possible experiences, you’ll take into account the commercial goals and realities, as well as the technical constraints and innovations required to shape products M&S customers will love.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide design expertise and leadership to assigned product or service areas.
  • Use appropriate quantitative and qualitative data and insights about customer needs and behaviours to drive and define design directions, and definitions of success through human-centric design methods.
  • Coordinate and facilitate workshops and collaborative design sessions to ensure positive business partner and cross-functional engagement.
  • Service design and customer journey mapping to provide a full service offering to M&S customers.
  • Conceptualise, develop and detail innovative information organisation structures, interaction designs, page-level content organisation, navigation, and prototypes of digital products.
  • Develop user interface designs using knowledge of customer tasks, product functionality requirements, knowledge of UI architecture and standard methodologies, and industry/company interface standards.
  • Develop appropriate prototypes of designs/concepts to meet user research and communication needs.
  • Delivery and presentation of relevant critical metrics as required by the projects (such as creative briefs, concepts, digital assets, style guides, pattern libraries, etc).
  • Translate wireframes, UI specs, and graphical briefs to prototype or finished designs for multiple channels.
  • Support frontend developers with requisite digital assets and specifications.
  • Work with other agile teams to ensure patterns are reused and evolved when necessary. Create/update/maintain pattern library as required.

  • Familiar with working in an Agile environment. Use of Jira, confluence, story writing & estimating.
  • Validated experience in producing the best experiences, regardless of complexity or channel.
  • Engaging presentation style and capacity to think holistically.
  • Contributes to design practice and identity of a team.
  • Understanding of different UX research methods and how to apply them.
  • Workshop skills to capture requirements/feedback and communicate design concepts to business partners.
  • Build design guides and pattern libraries across all channels and adhere to established design guides.
  • Information architecture – translating business objectives and users’ needs into content and service structures that support user needs.
  • Wireframes, prototyping and specifications as appropriate to deliver within an agile environment.
  • Interaction Design techniques that underpin an intuitive, easy to use, and engaging experience.
  • A solid understanding of designing intuitive site functionality, interaction, site architecture, user interfaces, and navigation.
  • Ability to produce the best visual experiences in the industry, regardless of complexity or channel.
  • Sketch & Adobe Creative Suite skills plus prototyping tools such as Axure, Principle, ProtoPie, InVision & Keynote.
  • Strong knowledge of adaptable design methods, scalable designs and UI frameworks including web, iOS and Android
  • Able to plan and prioritise own work, define and keep focus in an agile delivery and lean UX environment, and support the planning of work for those under supervision.
  • Understanding of frontend code and engineering concepts.

Interview Process

  • 15 minute call with recruitment team (optional)
  • Initial 30 minute first stage interview with the hiring manager.
  • Final 1 hour interview with pre-set task for you to present back.
