Reporting to the Supply Chain Strategy & Business Planning Lead, this is a newly created role for a highly collaborative, engaging, and driven Associate Project Portfolio Manager to shape the strategic prioritisation, and project delivery, of the UK&I McDonald’s Supply Chain.

Working as part of a dedicated Strategy and Business Planning team, you will help drive world class strategic planning and project delivery by owning, developing, and embedding best in class portfolio and project planning practises within the department. You will do this by supporting the development and execution of a UK&I Supply Chain strategy roadmap, including mapping and prioritisation of potential activities with the Supply Chain Leadership Team, project planning support and expertise for Supply Chain SMEs, as well as roadmap progress reporting and insights management.

As the Associate Project Portfolio Manager, you will act a key link between the UK&I Supply Chain and the wider McDonald’s system; working closely with the McDonald’s business (at a local and global level), our Suppliers, and our Franchisees, to ensure we have robust and resilient plans that deliver competitive advance for our system.

This role will require significant stakeholder management, as you will be working to bring together a wide network of colleagues and partners behind aligned plans and activities. You will combine strong expertise and experience in the field of Portfolio and Project management, with a curious and collaborative mindset that motivates and mobilises colleagues and stakeholders.

What will my accountabilities be

  • Portfolio prioritisation and planning

Partnering with the Supply Chain leadership team to prioritise, plan and manage best-in-class Supply Chain annual roadmaps that drive the business strategy and are aligned to our business needs. Brining your stakeholder network with you, you will develop and embed best in class strategic decision-making criteria and processes that support the UK&I Supply Chain to consistently and confident prioritise the activity that will drive the most benefit for our system.

  • Project ownership and project planning

Supported by the Strategy & Business Planning Lead, you will own key departmental strategic initiatives from inception to delivery. Role modelling project management best practices, you be responsible for driving the delivery of select strategy, transformation, and/or cross-functional programmes that will move the needle of departmental performance. Alongside this, you will provide coaching and internal consulting support to the wider Supply Chain team in the development of best-in-class project plans in the areas they are leading.

  • Roadmap & portfolio reporting & insights

Supported by the Strategy & Business Planning Lead, you will own the process for reporting and sharing insights on the UK&I Strategic Roadmap, and project portfolio. You will help to create the best-informed supply chain in the world, and embed a strategy first culture across our teams, by leading on project and resource status reporting, portfolio, and project strategic alignment reporting, as well as portfolio and project risk mapping and reporting.

Which team will I be a part of

This role sits within the Strategy & Business Planning team within Supply Chain. This team forms one of four sub-functions within the department, the others being: (1) Purchasing & Logistics, (2) Quality Assurance & Nutrition, and (3) Sustainable & Ethical Sourcing.

The purpose the Strategy & Business Planning team is to:

  • Ensure the development of Supply Chain strategies that will build competitive advantage for our system, and consistent operational excellence across the department
  • Drive best in class business plans and business planning processes, capable to translating our Supply Chain strategies into delivered results and operational excellence
  • Drive word class team and stakeholder engagement standards, ensuring that the UK&I Supply Chain is viewed as the best place to work by our teams, and the best team to engage with by our stakeholders

What background do I need to have

Technical

  • AgilePM and/or Prince2 practitioner, or be able to demonstrate practitioner level understanding of project management methodologies through practical experience
  • Knowledge of project management software (Smartsheets preferred)
  • Knowledge of relevant management and business change techniques such as business process modelling notation (BPMN), SIPOC and business process re-engineering
  • Knowledge of suitable strategic decision-making techniques, such as multi criteria analysis and cost benefit analysis
  • A good understanding of information technology, including Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and PowerPoint, et
  • c. (PowerBI and Excel macros users preferred)

  • A self-starter, with high energy and passion, capable of driving through ambiguity and complexity to deliver results
  • A networker, capable of bringing people with you in a large, complex organisation, and highly interpersonal with a preference for listening first and building relationships

Experience

Demonstrable track record of successfully:

  • Leading and managing the delivery of one or more simultaneous programmes and projects through others, as a portfolio or programme manager (portfolio management preferred)
  • Leading and managing one or more programmes and projects simultaneously yourself, as a programme or project manager
  • Utilising strategic decision-making techniques, such as multi criteria analysis and cost benefit analysis, to prioritise programmes, projects, and activity
  • Utilising agile project methodologies, including sprint cycles and SCRUM
  • Advising and facilitating senior leadership teams or clients, whether as an external or internal consultant, including management of stakeholder interviews, workshops, engagement, and comms
