Job responsibilities

You will be responsible for supporting the successful delivery of our biggest and most exciting strategic
projects across the UK&I business. This will include supporting the transformation of our organisation, by
designing and implementing improved ways of working and supporting the organisation’s understanding
of project and change management.

You will work closely with project teams across the organisation and also have high exposure to the
leadership team, with you being the ‘go-to’ stakeholder as a best in-class project and change expert.
You will have a significant opportunity to shape and improve our ways of working across the organisation,
driving and landing change for our 136,000 employees. This will require a curious mind and an appetite for
innovation, together with the ability to engage, mobilise and excite our people around business change and
continuous improvement.

What will my accountabilities be

Your key accountabilities include:

  • Coaching and upskilling wider McDonald’s project leads on change and project management best

practices, focusing on supporting tools such as:

o Project scope forms
o Understanding and defining the ‘case for change’
o Creating and management realistic, achievable project plans
o Change readiness checks
o Change impact analysis
o Development of appropriate training and comms plans and materials (not accountable for
all design)
o Retrospectives and lessons learnt

  • Leveraging expertise of different delivery methods to achieve the best results; having an understanding of both agile and waterfall methodologies
  • Providing support to project leads in executing change brilliantly and continuously improving
  • Sharing thought leadership and outside perspectives with the business to support other

departments, suppliers, franchisees and colleagues in restaurants on their change journey

  • Continuous improvement of internal change and project management tools, using your own

experience, knowledge and continuous learning

  • Providing objective and friendly challenge to everything we do through a business change and

transformation lens

  • Supporting departments across the business to deliver against our transformation initiative to

improve our ways of working

  • Providing insight to deliver continued improvement of business processes and ways of working
  • Supporting our organisation to understand the art of the possible
  • Supporting the Head of Business Improvement to equip the Exec, Leadership and Change Steering

Group with the information needed to make informed strategic and commercial decisions to set

ourselves up for future success through transformation and continuous improvement

  • Day to day guidance and close collaboration with the Change Analyst and all other members of the

Change Team

Which team will I be a part of

You will be part of the ‘Change’ team. This hugely important team connects people across our business to
focus on delivering the right projects, in the best way, to achieve our business goals. It proactively and
independently challenges and innovates, working diligently to improve the way we work and deliver
change as a business.

You will report to the Head of Business Improvement and work within a part of the Change team alongside
the Change Analyst, focused on supporting our organisation to successfully deliver large, strategic
projects. This role requires working collaboratively across the organisation and influencing across all levels,
leading the upskilling of other teams.

Ultimately, we will give you the freedom to drive what excellence looks like and would like your input into
shaping the role, the method, the tools and the effectiveness of how we drive and deliver change across
the organisation as a whole.

Who will my customers be

Given the central nature of the role, your ‘customers’ are wide and varied. You will be comfortable

collaborating with multiple departments in Corporate, then rolling your sleeves up and working alongside

Crew Members in our restaurants as you get some test and learn activities underway. With strong

engagement and influencing being core competencies, you will also have the emotional intelligence and

flexibility in thinking and acting to engage with relevancy and authenticity at every level. Your key

stakeholders are (not exhaustive):

  • UK&I leadership team – align functional leaders around tools and methodologies to successfully

manage projects and deliver change

  • Project leads – advocate and demonstrate innovative and agile ways of project delivery and

executing change

  • UK&I communications team – ensure our strategic storytelling is simple, clear and consistent
  • Franchisees – collaborate and value them as a business partner and change enabler
  • Restaurants – making sure that in whatever we do, we articulate our case for change and are well

received by our colleagues in restaurants

  • Global – supporting functional leaders with aligning on Global initiatives and sharing our

innovation back to the system

What background do I need to have

You will have the competencies, mind-set, and ideally real-life experience, to lead change in a complex and

fast-paced business. You are able to support successful project delivery through others whilst also

considering the impacts of changes and can identify suitable interventions to mitigate any risks. The

competencies and behaviours you will demonstrate and be able to evidence are:

Essential:

  • Awareness and some knowledge of change management approaches or project management

approaches

  • Some evidence of supporting project management or change management on large/strategic

projects/programmes

  • Some experience in change management or project management framework / tooling

development

  • The ability to influence stakeholders and challenge effectively where required
  • The ability to take complex ideas and communicate them simply, taking people with you
  • Highly collaborative workstyle with the ability to engage and mobilise teams around common goals
  • The ability to spot problems and solve them creatively, individually and with others
  • Curious mind-set, never settling for the status quo and championing continuous improvement
  • You’re a self-starter, have a can-do attitude, are outcome focussed and attack change with energy

and drive that inspires others

  • You seek and act upon feedback and proactively work on your personal and professional

development

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and experience of approaches that enable innovation and agile ways of working
  • Knowledge and experience of continuous improvement opportunities
  • Awareness of trends in the hospitality, leisure or retail sector
  • Knowledge of how a franchised business operates
