Job Description:

The Science and Industry Museum (SIM), part of SMG, explores how ideas can change the world, from the Industrial Revolution to today. Our historic site is home to the world’s first passenger railway, and we bring this story to life with engaging displays, interventions, and events.

Job Responsibilities:

  • You will champion accessibility, inclusion and diversity in our displays and work to improve representation in our storytelling on gallery.
  • A day in the role of Gallery Project Manager at the Science and Industry Museum is very varied
  • You might be leading a creative content and interpretation workshop for colleagues, preparing tender documentation to find new creative partners or reviewing design drawings for a new display case in consultation with Collections Care colleagues.
  • The Gallery Project Manager is a role that allows for creativity balanced with effective project management in a dynamic museum with big ambitions for the future.
  • As Gallery Project Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality of interpretation and display of our collections, galleries and outside spaces.
  • Driving excellent internal communication and multi-disciplinary working, you will lead and deliver a programme of gallery refreshes and display updates, working with audiences and informed by visitor evaluation.
  • We are hosting an information session via Zoom at 1pm on Thursday 15th September.

  • Jane will deliver a short presentation and following this there will be time to ask any questions you might have.

Job Requirements:

  • Joining us you will be motivated by the opportunity to engage audiences with science and industry through a rolling programme of projects of different size, scale, duration and topic.
  • You will understand the process of exhibition and interpretation making and know what makes a good display in gallery and online.
  • You will be able to bring our collections to life.
  • You will have experience and skill in establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with your team and other internal stakeholders.
  • Crucially you will have knowledge of accessibility, inclusion, and diversity within the context of presentation of collection objects and ideas, and an awareness of best practice in these areas.

Qualification & Experience:

  • An excellent project manager and creative producer, you will work on a range of projects with external partners, including artists, designers, curators, creative and technical practitioners.
  • You’ll be able to drive projects forward by using your organisational skills with your ability to effectively manage multiple streams of work and meet deadlines.
  • You will have strong project management skills with a good eye for detail.
