Job Introduction

This role sits in Route Services, a business area that has been created to supply services to the routes in the safest, most cost-efficient and effective way, enabling them to benefit from economies of scale and optimised national resources.

Working in the IT Services Team, you will provide our customers with smart technology for the railway of today, designing fit-for-purpose and innovative solutions. Your vital work will help to manage the day-to-day running of our vast IT estate, from safety critical systems maintenance to hardware provision, supporting thousands of employees every day.

Main Responsibility

Be the application expert for designated services within Network Rail. Work with the other members of the Application support team and the wider service users in the operational use and development of the system.

What will you be doing?

  • Provide support to the Technical Operations Manager in line and resource management to individuals within the Technical Operations resource pool.
  • Set personal objectives for team members, checks quality of assignment objectives. Set, gather and challenge performance feedback and performs formal performance management reviews.
  • Lead the team operationally and work with the Technical Operations Manager to identify and progress personal development opportunities for team members.
  • Escalation points for the Senior Technical Operations Support & Service Analysts.
  • Provide support for the designated portfolio of applications within Network Rail.
  • Recognised company expert in the applications and the way they are deployed in Network Rail.
  • Manage minor development and pursue improvement opportunities of applications and related products to meet user requirements and strategic objectives.
  • Maintain problem information in the call tracking system, liaising where appropriate with the Problem Management Team and the IT Helpdesk.
  • Identify and implement an appropriate resolution plan and escalate where necessary to the Customer Relationship team.
  • Prepare and submit requests for change deployment to change control. Manage the implementation process for new releases of supported applications. Ensuring to identify, prepare and test an appropriate resolution.

Essential

  • Significant experience in 2 nd line support of the relevant applications.
  • Experience of ITIL processes
  • Good analytical, organisational and teamwork skills
  • Experience of working in a multi-skilled team in a customer focussed environment
  • Broad technical knowledge and understanding of multiple tire applications.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues in a customer focused way.
  • Proven experience of managing a technical team

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the railway industry and its regulatory framework
  • Good understanding of the IT system relationships within Network Rail
  • Understanding of key business processes and IT support processes
  • Technical knowledge of a specified application/group of applications
  • Knowledge of configuration management

Package Description

Vacancy Type: Full-time but flexible working patterns will be considered.

Duration: Permanent

Location: Manchester Square One or The Quadrant, Milton Keynes

Band & Salary: Band 4C (£41,711 -£46,925)
