What will you be doing?

Road Fleet are responsible for procuring and delivering a wide range of road fleet vehicles and services that assist our staff getting to various worksites across Britain. We own and run a fleet over 8,000 Network Rail road vehicles including cars, vans and HGVs. Our diverse fleet ranges from simple vehicle racking to highly specialised, single-purpose, vehicles.

In addition to vehicle procurement, we also provide management for products including vehicle specification development, ordering, delivery and collection, livery, telematics, fuel cards and taxing. We have a dedicated 24/7 helpline that covers short-term hires, accident breakdown recovery, fleet management and servicing.

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join the Road Fleet team as a Business Support Manager. This dynamic and fast-paced role, which will include managerial responsibility for a small team, is focused on handling complex contracts, ensuring a high standard of supplier relationship management at all times and developing commercial strategy that will continually improve our performance levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing complex contracts, business processes and technical activities to achieve the most efficient and effective delivery of services in Road Fleet.
  • Handle internal and external stakeholder relationships to understand their future business requirements and supply and demand pressures.
  • Collecting, reviewing and analysing contract and supplier performance data such as telematics and using it to support contract delivery.
  • Controlling the day-to-day and ongoing budgetary spend in Road Fleet.
  • Managing the development of commercial strategies to better incentivise reliable supplier performance and drive supplier performance development programmes and sourcing activity effectiveness.
  • Identifying and implementing quality and efficiency improvement initiatives that will further our objectives in Road Fleet.
  • Manage the engagement and development of individuals in the team. This will include providing appropriate resources, communication strategies, training, and competency to safely deliver their accountabilities.

What skills and experience are we looking for?

Essential

  • Able to lead a team and motivate team members.
  • Extensive knowledge of the supply chain and the relevant supply contracts.
  • Experience of contract and supplier management.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • Commercial and negotiation skills.
  • Able to work under pressure.

Desirable

  • Good interpersonal, influencing, communication and organisational skills.
  • A customer focussed approach.
  • Able to evaluate complex factors and make decisions to maximise benefit to Network Rail.
  • Strategic outlook, including the ability to fully analyse options and drive delivery of recommendations.
  • Understanding and application of best practice supply chain management within relevant markets.
  • Proven experience of managing 3rd party supplier relationships as well as relationships with key internal stakeholders.

Package Description

Vacancy type: Permanent. Full-time, 35 hours per week (flexible working patterns will be considered).

Location: The Quadrant: MK, Milton Keynes.

Closing date: 25 th October 2023. This role is being advertised internally and externally.

Band & Salary: Band 3B, £44,690 – £50,276.
