About The Function…

Our Communications function is responsible for ensuring that Network Rail presents a consistent narrative about the company and its strategy. The team integrates Network Rail’s long-term business strategy with its external stakeholder communications and internal employee engagement.

Brief Description

Who are we looking for?

This is an exciting opportunity to take on a truly unique role at Network Rail with the opportunity to potentially go permanent. This is a fantastic role where no day will be the same, in a friendly team who support each other in all aspects. You will have countless opportunities to create highly engaging and wide-ranging content, with full support to unearth fascinating stories for passengers, neighbours and industry partners. Plus, you’ll get to work closely with designers and film makers to help deliver multi-media digital campaigns across national channels.

About The Role (External)

What does the average day look like?

In this role you will manage the day-to-day delivery of allocated communications channel(s) including Network Rail’s intranet, website, news, social media and video content. You will document and maintain the editorial policy, governance and guidelines for allocated channel(s), and adhere to those set. This includes managing the content and publication of corporate documents to production schedules. You will deliver channel(s) and content to time and production deadlines, with the appropriate engaging, creative and multimedia tone, language, content and house-style, and aligned to Network Rail’s strategic messages and corporate brand.

Day to day you will use formal and informal measurement data to evaluate the effectiveness of published content, to improve future communications. Using your understanding of the business’ strategic goals and audiences as well as industry and the wider news agenda to deliver clear and compelling communications. Which means you will work collaboratively with the wider Communication team to deliver joined-up internal and external communications.

What essential skills and experiences are required?

  • Experience of delivering communications channels
  • Relevant experience in a communications role
  • Ability to shape and deliver key messages to various audiences and their individual needs
  • Excellent writing skills, including ability to produce content quickly
  • Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience of using a content management system, digital analytics and basic understanding of HTML

We Would Also Like, But Not Essential.

  • Experience in journalism or copywriting
  • Experience of producing content for a variety of mediums (e.g. intranet, social media, print)
  • Experience of using creative and cost-effective means of communicating
  • Experience of managing a budget
