Brief Description

We have an opportunity for a Scheme Project Manager here in our Southern Region Capital Delivery Team.

Based at London Blackfriars, you’ll be accountable for the delivery of individual Southern Capital Delivery projects in a safe and environmentally responsible manner to time, cost and quality, in accordance with the Network Rail company standards, governance processes, current legislation and procedures, including HMRI guidance where appropriate.

You’ll work closely with the Network Rail Project Manager to lead, direct and develop specialist teams to help successfully deliver projects in accordance with regional objectives, to satisfy internal and external stakeholders. These teams shall include, but not be limited to: commercial, programme controls and engineering. This direction shall involve establishing robust baseline plans that can be maintained through to completion.

About The Role (External)

Some of your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Manage and implement Construction Design Management (CDM) requirements necessary for projects to achieve full regulatory compliance, as well as safely deliver projects.
  • Identify and implement the management of resource planning for current and project work banks, including identification and management of critical resource requirements.
  • Support the Project and Programme Manager in preparing and maintaining definitions of the project requirements through the project lifecycle(s), as well as updating business cases that clearly outline the benefits, costs and risks to the clients.
  • Produce stakeholder management plans, taking account of all levels of interests and influence, to provide a framework for stakeholder management.
  • Manage project reviews at appropriate points throughout the project lifecycle which inform governance decisions of projects by identifying, monitoring, and providing evaluations of performance. This shall also involve the planning and implementation of mitigations, responding to other issues that affect the projects and associated programmes.
  • Assist the Project Manager in arranging change control in collaboration with clients and contractors by establishing, and implementing where necessary, protocols to change the scope of projects and update configuration documents as required, in line with Network Rail processes.
  • Support the Health and Safety Manager and Project Manager in accident investigations when appropriate and remitted to by the relevant designated competent person.

Essential

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Membership (or working towards membership) of the Association for Project Management.
  • Achieved PRINCE2 Foundation or equivalent.
  • Good stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Successful relevant experience including experience of contracting and project delivery.
  • Knowledge and experience of project budget management.
  • Good evaluation and decision-making skills.
  • Project safety management and Health and Safety legislation knowledge.
  • Knowledge safety cases in support of projects.

Desirable

  • Experience in the Rail Industry Sector (including application of GRIP, and Construction Design
  • Management (CDM) on simple projects).
  • Knowledge of Network Rail’s Project, Investment, Commercial and Procurement practices.
  • Experience in risk identification, assessment and mitigation.
  • Flexible and pro-active approach.
  • You will be a team player with willingness to learn, challenge and get involved.
  • Knowledge of Network Rail’s assets and how they are managed.
