What area of the business will I be working in?

Technical Authority (TA) are a vitally important part of the freight and passenger business. We are here to consistently deliver for our front line and customers today, tomorrow and for the future.

TA’s purpose is to support our front line to deliver safe and efficient performance for passengers and freight.

We have some fantastic concepts and proposals within Technical Authority and part of the project team job is to turn them into reality through clearly defined projects.

This will ensure that we make a difference by realising the benefits to help the front line and passengers.

Brief Description

Vacancy Type: Full-time.

Location: This role is based at The Quadrant: MK.

Band & Salary: 4B, £32,740 – £36,832.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking to appoint a hardworking individual who is looking to progress their project management career.

You will have a chance to own national projects and support on large-scale Health and Safety programmes. Projects within this role will deliver business change and enablers to improve our safety performance and the health and wellbeing of colleagues.

You’ll get the opportunity to work with a wide range of partners (internal and external to Network Rail) and collaborate with the likes of safety experts, engineers, data and subject matter authorities who can help you understand the technical requirements of your projects and help you to drive delivery.

The role is ideal for those who may have assisted on projects previously and are now looking for that next step in their career, or those who have had full project management exposure for projects of a small to medium value.

About The Role (External)

What does the average day look like?

As Scheme Project Manager, you’ll undertake a diverse range of tasks which includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Full ownership and delivery of business change projects within the Health and Safety Home Safe Plan portfolio.
  • Delivery of projects in a safe, sustainable and environmentally responsible manner to time, cost and quality.
  • Extensive internal and external partner management to ensure that delivery is achieved and benefits are realised for your projects.
  • Management of projects within corporate and industry governance, including handling changes and risk effectively.
  • Full management of project budgets and forecasting.
  • Provide a professional, consistent and effective project management service including the use of performance indicators and reporting tools.

What skills and experience are we looking for?

  • Successful relevant experience including project management.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Project safety management experience.
  • Knowledge of safety, quality and environmental procedures.
  • Knowledge of commercial and financial procedures.
  • Membership (or working towards membership) of the Association for Project Management or other professional body.

We would also like, but it’s not essential:

  • Knowledge of Oracle Projects.
  • A degree or equivalent.
  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt.
