Science Museum Jobs – Exhibitions Project Manager

Website Science Museum

Job Description:

The Science and Industry Museum (SIM), part of the SMG, explores how ideas can change the world, from the Industrial Revolution to today. In our new £5m Special Exhibitions Gallery we stage major science exhibitions developed with a range of partners.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Working on site is important, whether managing contractors, holding workshops with designers or catching up with colleagues.
  • But so too is the focused time working from home for detailed project planning tasks such as writing briefs and budget management.
  • The Exhibitions Project Manager is a role that allows for creativity balanced with effective project management in a dynamic museum with big ambitions for the future.
  • We welcome applicants from a wide range of experiences and backgrounds to apply for this role.
  • We are hosting an information session via Zoom at 1pm on Thursday 15th September. Join Senior Exhibitions Manager Jane Brown to find out more about the Science and Industry Museum’s Exhibitions and Gallery Projects Team and our new exciting opportunities.
  • Jane will deliver a short presentation and following this there will be time to ask any questions you might have.
  • In this role, you’ll lead and deliver a series of key projects created by SIM and touring exhibitions from venues across SMG and other partners.
  • You will manage project teams and make decisions to ensure exhibitions are successfully planned and delivered within the parameters of the brief, programme and budget.
  • A day in the role of Exhibitions Project Manager at the Science and Industry Museum is very varied.
  • You might be leading a creative content workshop for colleagues, meeting potential technical contractors, reviewing a drawing for a new interactive or preparing Project Progress reports including financial reporting.

Job Requirements:

  • Open for All’ is one of the Science Museum Group’s five core values and sets out our important aspiration to be a place for everyone.
  • As a national museum group, we have an ability to reach a wide and diverse population of audiences, colleagues and partners through our geography and scale.
  • We are working hard to understand our organisation better and to foster a culture that recognises and values different backgrounds, mindsets, skills, experience, knowledge and expertise.
  • By having greater diversity, we believe that we will be a stronger and better organisation and ultimately will be able to inspire more futures.
  • We therefore welcome applications from those who bring difference.
  • Joining us as an employee, you will have the opportunity to develop your career in a world-class museum group.
  • We know work/life balance and wellbeing is crucial to our colleagues, so we currently offer up to 25 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays; BUPA medical and dental care; employee assistance programme; enhanced contributory pension; enhanced occupational sick, maternity, paternity and adoption leave and career breaks.

Qualification & Experience:

  • You will be able to use your excellent communication and people leadership skills to motivate and develop colleagues and build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Crucially you will also have a creative, innovative and flexible approach to work with good attention to detail.
  • Joining us you will have experience of successfully delivering high quality visitor/audience experiences.
  • You will have experience of leading project teams and managing external creative teams including designers, artists and digital developers.
