About the job

  • The Carpenter is ultimately responsible to OC GEF, but for all practical purposes is under the control of the Station Workshops Trade Manager (SWS TM).
  • The civilian Carpenter is responsible for:
  • Carrying out the work delegated to them by the Carpenters Shop Supervisor.
  • The good standard of all carpentry tasks including the repair, manufacture and modification of items that are the responsibility of GEF.
  • The design, development and construction, of structural and carcassed carpentry work and the interpretation of engineering and Service information.
  • The use and maintenance of specialist equipment associated with the trade.
  • Consultation with customers to assess task requirements, ensuring that the customer receives the correct item/s, in the time scale specified, to the standards required by the customer.
  • The preparation of working drawings where required.
  • The manufacture of jigs and to undertake pattern making where required.
  • Correctly recording the materials and man hours expended on task paperwork.
  • The correct compilation of documentation and its return to the Carpenters Shop Supervisor.
  • Ensuring only personnel authorized to enter the Carpenters Shop are permitted to do so.
  • Ensuring that all work and material storage areas are maintained in a clean and tidy condition during and after use.
  • Maintaining correct tool control iaw Reference A & B.
  • Complying with all Safety, Health, Environment and Fire (SHEP SD) Regulations and ensuring that any anomalies are brought to the immediate attention of his supervisor, the SWS TM or their Deputy.
  • Carrying out Risk Assessments prior to commencement of all tasks and referring to the SWS TM, their Deputy or the Carpenters Shop Supervisor for documentation where appropriate.
