What will the successful candidate be doing?

Our Structures team is the single source for independent advice regarding the use and performance of engineering materials used in UK military aircraft. The team also provide a rapid failure analysis capability to aircraft operators and UK military delivery teams to ensure airworthiness and aircraft availability is maintained.

Working both as part of a team and independently, you will design and undertake scientific investigations in the fields of materials science, forensic science and aerospace engineering to identify the causes of aircraft incidents and accidents. You will develop scientific approaches, analyse, interpret and present scientific data and provide advice to resolve a wide range of aircraft issues. Examples of the broad nature of the work carried out by the team include advice following material failures within aircraft propulsion and other systems; airframe components; military land vehicles; weapons; and forensic support following aircraft accidents.

The team provide 24/7 analysis and advice to aircraft operators and occasional weekend and some work outside normal office hours is to be expected.
